Yo (Post 17) says:

"It’s funny though that you use the placebo effect in the post as this is one of the proof that points out that the law of attraction DOES exist.

There are several people who has been given a sugar pill instead of medicine – and POOF – they got cured.
If the medicine didn’t cure them – then the only reason are the thoughts.
The thoughts that the “pill” would cure them. And it did. No matter is it was medicine or sugar…"

No one has ever been CURED by taking a placebo. Lets just clarify what the placebo does. Say you have serious back pain because of a torn muscle. Okay. You take a placebo and the pain disappears, voila. But the placebo only allows you to feel less pain, it does not repair the torn muscle.

The pain may be (temporarily) gone, but you still have the medical problem and without treatment it will only get worse.

@Joe

And guess what Joe... She'll break up with this guy who beat her up with a baseball bat. Next week she'll find exact same guy who will beat her up again because of the way she is, she will keep on meeting the same type of people and she will keep getting attracted to the same abusive kinda men.. until she decides to change.

For that she'd have to change the way she thinks, her beliefs and that will influence on the way she sees the world and how she feels about the world and in the end she'll end up meeting different people.

And regarding #4 in the original post. Life is not all black and white. it's way more complex than you think it is.

Ever set your alarm clock to 6? Ever said to yourself "I must wake up at 6 o'clock" and then you wake up before the alarm clock goes off?

Is there a chance that you said to yourself out of anger "I wish i lose this car" or "I wish i lose money" or anything like that and then your subconscious will lead you into getting what you wanted?

Perhaps if you were more aware and you truly didn't want to get into an accident for whatever reason you got yourself into an accident in first place, your gut, your subconscious would be more aware of danger at that second when you were about to get hit by that car and you could have avoided it. Ever heard of such thing as 6th sense? instinct? no? too bad.. maybe you shouldn't be writing blogs about such things at all!

You had very poor pointers there to disprove law of attraction.

But in the end... it doesn't matter. we're all different and we all believe in different things and very easily all of us could be wrong and all of us live in a fantasy world. But many people's ego is too high to accept this. That there's this little chance that your beliefs are full of shit. Because I accept the fact that law of attraction could be bullshit. but you know what matters? is that it works for some people and it works for me. and other things work for other people and it's their right to believe what they wanna believe and the last thing i am gonna do is judge and question their beliefs.

@Joe

Yes very much so. People do attract these things. It's funny how I was aware of this common sense called "Law of attraction" even before reading any books and hearing about the secret.

I know many people who enjoy getting beat and enjoy being yelled at. How do I know that that woman "enjoyed" that abusive experience? because her drunk husband was showing hints and signs of abuse and destruction but she still decided to stick around. The first time he yelled at her violently, it was the first sign what she's getting herself into, the first time he grabbed her arm, the first time he pushed her.. it just kept going.. but guess what? she didn't do anything about it, instead she decided to play his game, she kept throwing wood in the fire = she kept on attracting the same experience and she allowed it into her life.

I am sure he was no angel when he married him. He didn't just wake up one morning and decided to get drunk and beat her up.

She knew exactly what experience she was creating. Well I guess she didn't pay attention because she was so occupied with the noise going on in her head. If she was aware of law of attraction, she'd be more aware of what's happening in her life and what she's getting her self into.

Law of attraction is a very simple understanding and common sense.

No. you will not magically get money in your mail by simply thinking of it. If you think this is how law of attraction works then you should do a little more research before making such post. Whereever you heard about such statement they didn't mean it literally. There's much more to it.

Oh and one other thing. If there was LAO I am quite sure its not for greedy little fluckers to demand material riches all for themselves. I'm sure they'd have a much greater purpose, furthering life generation and evolution somehow, but not allowing a small minority of people who master it to drive Ferarri's and stockpile money...

I enjoyed this blog post and the lively discussion in the comments.

I agree that the secret is a 'wealth creation' exercise for the producers and 'stars' ahem, experts haha. I have been to a few self help and wealth generation seminars and this is basically the same thing, you know free or cheap tickets, using sneaky NLP techniques to get people to feaver pitch and then sending them to the back of the room to buy a load of products or seminars for a time limited offer...yadda..yadda. Only they cleverly sold it to a wider audience via DVD, then got their sales through a website and from what I know, they made a packet, which to be fair is a pretty good business model whether you agree with the ethnics or NOT.

I have mixed and unconclusive attitudes and feelings towards the (so called) Law of Attraction (LOA). Firstly, it can surely only be a law if proven, which as far as I know its not, so its not a law, its a theory first and foremost?

I do think we humans attract things into our lives in a multitude of ways. On a very basic level we do that on a body language way, we give off lots of signals that are outside of our conscious awareness. For example, you know instinctively if someone is being neverous, or aggresive, or shy, before they've spoken a word to you. For example, I had a car stolen from me at knife point recently, I sure as hell didn't think that was coming, they were just oportunist hoods, who do it regularly where I was parked, I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Yet, from this point on and for several months I was a bit shakey walking the streets in certain ares (for fairly understandble reasons I might add). And guess what happens then? Every little gang off hooded teens and wanna be gangsters could smell the fear, and I got into many more hairy situations and close calls in a couple of months than I had in over a decade. This is attraction in my view, but I suspect largely based in instinctual or learned behaviours, not some sort of devine interaction with a universal force powered by whoever is thinking hardest.

Although I don't rule out the concept altogether that you might be giving out signals on some as yet undiscovered or unproven level. I'll give you another example. The hoods that stole my car. I sensed harm was coming my way before I had actually made visual contact or knew they were there, and as they came over although they hadn't made any moves I knew something was wrong. I can't explain how, but I knew something was about to happen before it did.... Could it be that at some level we do sense intent or emotions before they come into our basic senses? I'm not sure, but I have enough personal exeperience of unexplaiend phonomena to keep an open mind despite the fact that I have no (or have seen no) evidence to prove any such notion.

In addition to how you give off a certain vibe I think there is a case of how we mentally filter our respective reality, from the reading I have done on psychology, we tend to at some subconsious level make things self fulfilling, to reinforce our own sense of reality. The arguments or examples of such things have been for example, people with low self esteem might subcounsciously sabotage relationships to support a beliefe they're unworthy or unlovable. So then, you could certainly say that positive thinking, and changing beliefs of what is possibel while have a strong effect on your results and what kind of experiences and people you'll attract into your life.

I'm not a scientist, or philosopher or any other kind of expert so these are just my own musing on the concepts, which I find very intriguing and I keep an open mind that there are forces at work that we are not yet aware of. It might be romantic, but I'm down with a bit of romance, sure beats religion. :)

Yo, all the placebo effect proves is that people are good at deceiving themselves. This has nothing to do with, e.g., wishing for money and suddenly receiving checks in the mail.

Hey Derek. Interesting post.

It's funny though that you use the placebo effect in the post as this is one of the proof that points out that the law of attraction DOES exist.

There are several people who has been given a sugar pill instead of medicine - and POOF - they got cured.
If the medicine didn't cure them - then the only reason are the thoughts.
The thoughts that the "pill" would cure them. And it did. No matter is it was medicine or sugar...

Just saying. :)

I agree that we all see the world differently. I even agree that the way we look at the world has a major effect on what happens to us. I don't, however, think that there's anything magical or especially secret about that. Positive people tend to find opportunities, while negative people do not. That's not the same as wishing for things and having them come true, which is what the "The Secret" is all about.

We speak different languages, it was difficult for me to understand your response too. =)
It's funny to notice that, because the world is not just multishaped, by what I meant that it is different to each human as an observer.
For example: For rich person the same street he is walking looks great, because he pays attention to beautiful trees, advertisements and all things like that, But for the poor person the exact same street looks awful, because he sees dirt on the road, garbage bins and other things. You get the point?
So I mean, that the world is not just multishaped, it's like a mirror - you see and receive the same what's inside of you...
Anyway I am not going to feed you up with this "new-age double-talk" anymore, I'll just quote what Jesus said:
"Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces." (Matthew 7:6).
